Guelph hosting the Special Olympics’ Provincial Spring Games
The Special Olympics’ Provincial Spring Games are coming to Guelph in 2016!
From Thursday May 26th to Friday May 28th, the city of Guelph will play host to teams from across the province who are participating in this event. Organized by Special Olympics Ontario, the games will provide an amazing opportunity for athletes to test their skills against fellow competitors in a variety of events, including swimming, basketball, bowling, powerlifting and gymnastics.
The team will begin arriving at the Athlete’s Village in the University of Guelph on Thursday. Sporting competitions will take place throughout the day, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Here are a couple of key times to remember:
-The Opening Ceremonies will be at the Sleeman Centre on Thursday, May 26th at 7:30 pm.
-The Closing Ceremonies will be at the Sleeman Centre on Saturday, May 28th at 7:30 pm.
Special Olympics Ontario provides sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children, youth and adults with intellectual disabilities. Their resources give these individuals continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
The Special Olympics movement offers one of the world’s greatest platforms for acceptance and inclusion for all people–regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or cultural differences. Through sport, Special Olympics aims to build communities of acceptance and inclusion for all people.
