About the Town of Shelburne
The town of Shelburne was founded in the 1860s and began developing after the construction of the Toronto-Sydenham road. The town is located in the heart of Dufferin County and sits at the intersection of Highway 10, Highway 89, and Highway 124 — making it a natural stopping point for people heading north to cottage country.
In 2016, Shelburne was highlighted as one of the fastest growing small towns in Ontario. An historic farming community with a growing manufacturing sector, the town has continued to expand. In addition to many great hiking trails, the town is known for hosting the Annual Canadian Championship Fiddling Contest each summer.
Our History in Shelburne
The Shelburne office for The Ostic Group Insurance Brokers was formerly the James Pickering Insurance Brokerage. The first insurance contract for this brokerage in Shelburne was with Economical Insurance, back in 1937.
Through acquisition, T. Harold McGhee became the owner of the original Pickering office. He sold the brokerage to Robert Eby and the business was renamed the Shelburne Insurance Agency Ltd. in 1977. Ivan Ostic purchased the business from Robert Eby in 1983 and the new Ostic Insurance Brokers branch office was opened in Shelburne in the same year.
Jamie Ostic and his wife Cheryl moved from Fergus to Shelburne so that Jamie could take on the management responsibilities for the new branch office. Jamie and Cheryl raised their children in the community of Shelburne and continue to live in the area today.
