Ride for Dialysis

Free Motorcycle Insurance QuoteEach year, our very own Jamie Ostic participates in the Lion’s Club Ride-For-Dialysis, which raises money for Lions Camp Dorset.

The Kidney Dialysis Camp, also known as Lions Camp Dorset is a camp that has been funded, built and maintained by Lions Club members across Ontario since 1978. Lions Camp Dorset is a place where families who have a member with malfunctioning kidneys who simply could not take a vacation due to the requirements of every other day 2-3 hour dialysis treatments, can experience a true family vacation. The camp allows these families to relax and enjoy a week or two of vacation with treatments available right at the camp.

At the camp there are 14 cottages, 15 motel units, a recreation centre with indoor pool, and a great waterfront. The medical centre at camp houses a full time staff through the camping season and 19 dialysis machines for the treatment of necessary campers during their stay.

The Ride for Dialysis is a yearly fundraiser where interested parties can leisurely ride their motorcycle from the camp approximately 400 km through the Muskoka, Algonquin and Haliburton Highlands area. It is held in September of each year and this year’s ride raised over $10,000 for the cause.

Awesome report on the Lions Camp Dialysis. As a member of the Guelph Lions Club I have had the pleasure of doing some work at the camp along with the financial support Lions provide. It is truly an inspiring camp. Thank you Jamie for supporting the camp. Keep up the good work. If your readers would like to help out the camp you can donate through your ride or through your local Lions Club. Better yet you could join a club and help make the world a better place.
