Local Hero: Peter Guth, V.P. Structured Credit at RBC Wealth Management
We are excited to showcase Peter Guth in this edition of The Ostic Group Local Hero Spotlight.
Peter is the Vice President of Structured Credit at RBC Wealth Management.
Originally from Brooklin, Ontario, Peter moved to Guelph in 2010 with his wife Andrea and their three kids, Colin, Yvette, and Nathan.
Peter has worked for RBC for over 20 years. The combination of a positive culture and opportunity for personal and professional growth has meant a lot to Peter. “We truly care about our employees, their families, and all of our communities.”
Community involvement is very important to Peter. He has been proud to serve on the St. Joseph’s Foundation Board for six years, the St. Joseph’s Hospital Board for one year, and six years with the Board of Ontario Agrifood Technologies.
As his kids grew older, Peter streamlined his community involvement with an angle towards local sports associations. He has been proud to coach hockey, soccer, and lacrosse for almost 20 years, and has spent five years on the Board of Guelph Minor Hockey.
“For me, it’s a way to give back. I started coaching because of the love for the game and wanting to ensure the kids had a great experience — I love teaching and coaching. Supporting healthcare is so important in our community, and getting involved helped me to learn more about the system and how best to give back. I’ve been inspired by people in our community like Marva Wisdom and John Hamilton to give back and get involved.”
Peter is a strong believer in the importance of strong and personable leadership. Having had the opportunity to work with great leaders throughout his career, Peter understands that the best coaches cared about him as a person, and this made it much easier to receive feedback and grow.
Feedback is best received when the person receiving it knows it’s coming from someone who cares about them and has the intent of helping them be better and successful.
“Getting to know your team one-on-one is so important, and it builds trust and a strong relationship. It’s important that my people know that I care for them and their families. That makes it easier to have tough conversations, because they know I’m here to help them improve and be successful in life. You can’t help someone you don’t understand.”
Why The Ostic Group?
“I believe that when you work with The Ostic Group, you deal with integrity and with folks who care about their customers and community. Knowing Mike and Dave, and understanding their values as a business to provide the right advice and counsel regardless of the financial outcome is important to me. They’re passionate about what they do and they know if they serve people well, it’ll all work out in the end.”
Peter, The Ostic Group thanks you for being a local hero.
